Baptism of Elena Elizabeth

June 23, 2016

Nestled among the high rise apartments of Pyrmont is the beautiful, little sandstone church of St Bede’s. This tiny sanctuary would be the setting for baby Elena’s baptism. Looking awfully cute, little Elena was dressed in a silk baptism gown and cap, a family heirloom handed down from her father to her older sister and now to her. The lucky girl was flanked by godparents from both sides of her family, with her ecstatic extended family looking on.

St Bede’s Catholic Church dates back to 1867, when Pyrmont was the site of several sandstone quarries with a large, working class population. The small, Gothic style Church was actually constructed from local sandstone. Today, it is a popular site for weddings, sitting adjacent to Star City casino, and within close proximity to other city wedding and reception venues.
