Hannah & Seungwoo

October 4, 2016

“We wanted to acknowledge tradition while also staying true to ourselves as a couple – generally relaxed vibe”, explains the bride, who rocked in an amazing Kate Gubanyi ‘Rosa’ gown (complete with delicate appliqué roses), and coupled it with a traditional Korean gold bracelet and a 1950s sixpence sneakily placed in her shoe. After proposing on a romantic yacht cruise along the Gold Coast, engineer, Seungwoo and music teacher, Hannah had 18 months to plan their wedding with the added challenge of having to do it from the other side of the country, yep, from Perth WA.

THE VENUE “We decided on the ceremony location first. I made a trip to the Gold Coast from Perth, and checked out all the beachside locations from Currumbin to the Tweed. My dad mentioned that the Kingscliff pub had renovated recently, We went to have a look, and see their prices. I was sold immediately. Super close to our ceremony location, and heaps of nearby accommodation for guests.”

THE DRESS “I was inspired by the rose gold of my engagement ring. I was sold as soon as I glimpsed the warm, rosy cream colour of the fabric, and the delicate appliqué roses. We found a shop called The GC Bridal Lounge online, and called to make an appointment. Luckily there was time available that afternoon. Designer Kate Gubanyi took us through her collection, and we were so impressed by the quality & pricing. The ‘Rosa’ gown was the first one I picked to try on. As soon as I put it on, I knew that it suited me to a tee. I brought mum and Nanny back to take a look at it before I made my final decision, and that was it – easy. Kate was wonderful to work with, and kept me updated on the progress of my dress throughout – something I appreciated, being on the other side of the country.”

THAT CHEESECAKE “My cousin organised a 4 tier ‘cheese’ cake (literally wheels of cheese, stacked, with crackers & grapes on the side). She’d gotten the idea from her friend’s wedding – it went down so well there. She went all out with the exotic cheeses though. My brother’s girlfriend went to the wedding venue that afternoon to set it all up, but when she got the cheese out of the packaging, it stank!!! All the windows had to be cracked to air the place out before the guests arrived. On the upside, the cheese was a hit, even if it was a bit on the nose.”

THE REAL CAKE “Someone took a hunk out of the wedding cake, thinking it was cheese – no-one ever owned up to it.” 😆

FAVOURITE MOMENT “Our friend, Reece (a groomsmen and elected emcee for the evening reception) was horrified to discover that we had forgotten to pick a song to play as we entered the reception venue. Reece is also a piano player (we were rivals in high school music), and upon seeing that there was a functioning baby grand piano at our reception venue, he volunteered to play a song for our entrance rather than simply play a recording. We loved this personal touch, and it added so much more to a special moment.”

WORDS OF ADVICE “Don’t stress – have fun with it. Enjoy the day – don’t waste energy on nerves or perfectionism.”

STANDOUT VENDORS “Bart, the wonderful harpist from Harp Tidings was incredible. As a musician, I appreciate live music, and harp has always been one of my favourite instruments – one that I always wished I had had the opportunity to learn (still on my to do list). Tom & Emmy from T & E Weddings and events, our videographer, created an incredible short film that so perfectly captured the spirit of the day – something to treasure forever.”
