Sophie & Jack – Southern Highlands Country Wedding

January 26, 2017

Sophie & Jack’s story really began about 3 years ago, when they met after commenting on the same photo of a mutual friend on Instagram. “This was followed by a lot of awkward dates”, explains bride, Sophie. The buildup to their big day had its fair share of melodrama. “We had to change our venue location 3 months before the wedding! It was incredibly stressful… I also lost my engagement ring”. Those pre-wedding hiccups were but a distant memory though as Sophie beamed in her custom dress sourced from Tifary and Space 46 Boutique, with makeup by the ever amazing LuLu. THE PROPOSAL: “I had a date locked in to propose to Sophie and had organised my family to come up from Melbourne to celebrate it at the weekend”, explains the groom, Jack. “But it rained non stop and I was hoping that eventually it would stop but it didn’t so I proposed at Balmoral beach on a pouring wet summers night”. You can check out how it went down here.

VENUE: “It was a very unplanned, last minute but wonderful decision deciding our venue! We needed a new venue ASAP and the location we had booked for our wedding accommodation was this beautiful homestead and farm, we asked the owner if we could put up a Marquee in her garden and she said yes. We couldn’t be happier, the grounds are so beautiful and the owners are incredibly friendly – the best kind of vendors!”

THE DRESS: “I ordered my wedding top from a Polish etsy store and I could not be happier, I chatted with him for a while and combined a few of his designs together to create the perfect custom design. He was so helpful and even sent us a sweet poem wishing us a happy marriage with the order! I got my skirt from Space 46 Boutique because it was the perfect amount tulle!”

THE DIY: “I LOVE creating things so quite a lot of the wedding was DIY. We made the tea favours, signs, a few garden games, name tags, table numbers etc. the most fun to make was the blackboard for the menu!”

FUNNY STORIES: “I ripped my dress when I was jumping on the trampoline with all the kids and had to explain to very concerned guests all night why it was ripped. It was so worth it”, Sophie explains. “The official celebrant was late so we had to fake sign the marriage papers in church in front of everyone”.

FAVOURITE MOMENT: “One of my favourite parts of the day would probably be the father daughter dance and a very close second is all the other dancing, it was so fun and everyone got involved especially all the Scottish family when the 500 Miles came on!”
