Emma & Matt – Waldara Farm Scottish Country Wedding

January 15, 2021

Like many last year, Emma & Matt plans were rollicked by the onset of the pandemic. Yet nothing would deny them holding their perfect day, especially after spending much of 2018 searching from the Blue Mountains to Jervis Bay for the perfect venue. “We were starting to wonder if we would find what we were looking for and because the venue is such an important element of the wedding we wanted to get it right”, relates Emma. Luckily, after persevering they stumbled across Waldara Farm. With its idyllic country setting, and nestled amongst rolling hills, it had its fair share of Scottish flair. And as circumstances would have it, even the weather turned in its best highland performance. Scroll down to see more…

THE PROPOSAL

“Matt proposed on the three year anniversary of the day we met. He took me into Parramatta for burgers at Burger Project and then we went to event cinemas to see Ant Man 2 in Gold Class. Since we started dating we have seen every marvel movie together at the cinemas and our nerdy-ness and love of superheroes is one of the things we had in common and brought us together. Also, burgers are our favourite food and we actually go to the Burger Palooza festival together every year. It was a wonderful celebration of our relationship and the perfect proposal date night! We had a cocktail in the Gold Class lounge while we were waiting for the movie to start. After the trailers, when the lights went down ready for the movie to start… Matt asked me if I was excited that my sister would be here for our engagement party, opened the ring box and asked me to marry him! He had also organised for them to bring a cheese platter and tea in halfway through the movie to celebrate. It was so lovely and special.”

THE VENUE

“We were originally looking for a venue in the Southern Highlands as we both really love that area and have travelled there quite a few times for day trips and weekends away together. We looked at three different venues around that area but unfortunately, they weren’t quite right for us. We also looked at a venue in Huskisson and another in Megalong Valley without any luck. Matt did a bit more searching online, looking at blogs and websites and managed to find one with a few suggestions for hidden/rustic venues. We did a bit more digging and organised to see Waldara Farm in Edith. As soon as we arrived on the property, we loved it! And after a tour and a chat with the venue manager we both knew it was the one.”

THE DRESS

“My mum, Carly (my Matron of Honour), Emily (my other lovely bridesmaid) and I went in search of a wedding dress and my sister even FaceTimed us from Melbourne during the appointments so that she could see them too. I had booked appointments at three different bridal salons (two in the city and one in Blacktown). Our first stop was Brides of Sydney and I had already called them to check if they had the same dress I had found in their Parramatta store… the dress to beat! Tiana (my bridal consultant) was absolutely amazing and I had a wonderful time trying on dresses there, she really listened and cared. Coming towards the end of my appointment, the dress I had found in Parramatta was still everyone’s favourite but Tiana said she had one more dress that she wanted me to try that she thought might top it… and she was right! Everyone loved it and my mum cried (which they say is the true test haha). I was so shocked to find ‘the one’ in the very first store.”

FAMILY TRADITIONS

“During our ceremony, Matt and I shared a drink of whiskey from a quaich (loving cup) that my mum and dad brought back for us from Scotland. A quaich is a small pewter cup with two handles that represents two clans coming together through marriage. It is an old Scottish tradition that we really wanted to include in our ceremony. And then we also incorporated a lot of the classic wedding traditions as well.”
